FAQ

What industries or sectors do you serve?
We support a wide range of industries including industrial, warehousing, commercial, healthcare, financial, corporate office, automotive, food-grade, and community-based projects. Every project is different, so we adjust our approach to fit what each client needs.

What locations do you serve?
We primarily serve clients throughout Northern Ohio, with the ability to support regional projects as needed.

How long has Janotta & Herner been in business?
We’ve been serving clients since 1962, bringing decades of experience across a wide range of project types.

What is your ownership structure?
Janotta & Herner is a 100% employee-owned company (ESOP). That means every team member has a direct stake in the outcome of each project. Our employees approach every job with an ownership mindset—focused on long-term quality, accountability, and doing what’s right for the client.

Do you work with repeat clients?

Yes. 93% of our work comes from repeat clients, which reflects the relationships we build and the way we deliver our commitments.

Services & Capabilities

What services do you provide?
We offer a full range of services including design-build, general contracting, construction management, design and engineering, facility maintenance, equipment rigging, and steel fabrication. Approximately 95% of our projects are delivered through our design-build approach.

What size projects do you take on?
We handle projects of all sizes, from small facility maintenance work to large-scale builds. Each project receives the same level of attention and commitment.  No project is too big or too small.

What self-performing trades do you handle in-house?
Our in-house capabilities include site work, concrete, masonry, steel fabrication and erection, carpentry, metal studs, drywall, rigging, and facility maintenance. This allows us to maintain greater control over quality, schedule, and safety.

Design-Build Approach

What is design-build construction?
Design-build is a delivery method where one team handles both design and construction. At Janotta & Herner, this means your project is managed under one roof—from concept through completion—resulting in better coordination and a more streamlined experience. Traditional (design-bid-build) separates design and construction, often creating disconnects between teams. Design-build aligns everyone under a single contract and shared goals—reducing delays, minimizing gaps, and improving accountability.

Is design-build more cost-effective?
Yes. By integrating design, engineering, and construction, we reduce duplication of effort and unnecessary costs. Our approach also shortens the preconstruction timeline—often by up to 20%—helping clients move into their facilities faster.

What is your approach to job site safety?
Safety is a top priority on every project. We develop project-specific safety plans, employ full-time safety professionals, and utilize third-party consultants to ensure our practices meet or exceed industry standards. Our goal is simple: everyone goes home safe every day.

Can you work in an occupied or operational facility?

Yes. We regularly work in active environments and plan our work to minimize disruption while keeping safety a top priority.
