Old Trail School
Akron, Ohio
New Construction - 2,000 SF

An outdoor classroom with a green roof system requires detailed planning, precise installation, and expert execution of critical roofing and waterproofing components. Janotta & Herner served as the general contractor for the Old Trail School Outdoor Classroom—an especially meaningful project as Old Trail is the only independent school located within a national park.

The goal was to create a space that was beautiful, functional, sustainable, and seamlessly integrated into the surrounding natural environment. The result is an outdoor learning setting that allows students to connect with nature while still benefiting from a structured classroom environment. Although small, this was a highly complex construction project. The Janotta & Herner team conducted an in-depth review of the building science, moisture control, drainage, and long-term durability requirements necessary for a successful green roof installation. Our commitment to quality construction ensured a facility designed to perform for generations.
