Second Harvest Food Bank needed a community building contractor to expand its operations to continue meeting the growing needs of the Northern Ohio community. To support this mission, they partnered with the building addition contractor, Janotta & Herner, to design and build a 40,487 sq. ft. headquarters that would increase their capacity to fight hunger and serve families across the region.
The new facility combines their corporate office space with a highly functional food warehousing and distribution center. The building includes offices, meeting rooms, packing and sorting rooms, distribution areas, and specialized cold-storage environments featuring two 35-degree coolers and a 10-degree freezer—all essential to Second Harvest’s commitment to safely storing and distributing fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable foods.
The project involved several unique challenges, including construction during a harsh winter and the development of a wooded site requiring wetland removal and mitigation. Through a coordinated approach, Janotta & Herner delivered a facility that strengthens Second Harvest’s mission: providing food, resources, and hope to individuals and families facing hunger throughout Northern Ohio.
